Overview of localized bright spots |

Localized bright spots (LBS) form due to localized sources of electrons at current filaments
crossing the coupled quantum wells embedded in the hole-rich region around the optical
excitation spot. The LBS rings are caused by the in-plane charge separation of electrically
injected electrons and photoexcited holes. The exictons in the ring are generated at the
boundary between the electron-rich and hole-rich regions; the former is created by the
current filament at the LBS center, while the latter is created by optical excitation. The
LBS rings form sources of cold excitons.
